Atlanta Braves versus Miami Marlins (May 3)

Through the end of April, the Atlanta Braves ere 14-15 for the season, third in the NL East, while the Marlins are 8-21 and in last in the division.

Kevin Gausman is scheduled to start on the mound for the Braves and Jose Urena will get the ball for the Marlins.

The Braves have a balanced offensive attack. Ozzie Albies is tied with Ronald Acuna Jr for the team lead in home runs with six.

Josh Donaldson leads the team in RBI with 22 and is tied with Nick Markakis and Freddie Freeman with five home runs.

Markakis has the highest batting average so far at .330.

As a unit the Braves are among the better offenses in the league, averaging 5.1 runs per game.

On the flip side, the Marlins have struggled scoring runs.

Curtis Granderson leads the team with four home runs and 11 RBI. Starlin Castro, Jorge Alfaro and Neil Walker have each added three home runs.

The team is batting only .225 with 23 home runs and 82 runs scored.

The Marlins are averaging only 2.8 runs per game, last in the league and 1.9 runs per game behind the league average of 4.7.

Gausman is off to a shaky start for the Braves, with a 1-2 record and 4.80 ERA.

He’s struck out 33 in 30 innings but has allowed five home runs. The Braves’ bull pen has been up and down.

Closer AJ Minter has three saves but has allowed more than a run per inning.

Luke Jackson has been solid with two wins in 13 appearances and Josh Tomlin and Jesse BIddle have a combined 3.09 ERA in 23 1/3 innings.

As a unit, the Braves have allowed 5 runs per game.

Urena went 1-4 with a 5.08 ERA in April. He allowed 43 hits and five home runs in 33 2/3 innings.

Sergio Romo has four saves but has an ERA of six.

Nick Anderson, Tyler Kinley and Tayron Guerrero have been solid, allowing 11 runs in 40 innings for a 2.48 ERA. The Marlins have allowed 4.9 runs per game.

There is little indication that this will be a high scoring game.

The Marlins will be fortunate to score more than three. The Braves are scoring about the same per game as the Marlins are allowing.

Given that the league average is around 9 runs per game, this one should be a little below that.

Look for the Braves to win with a combined total of 7 runs.
