What is confirmation bias in sports betting ?
It may play a bigger role than you think in how betting decisions are made.
Learn what confirmation bias is, plus different ways to counter its effect.
The good news is, just by knowing about this bias, you are one step ahead of the crowd so to speak.
Questioning ones own thinking can lead to more well rounded decision making processes, leading to better overall decisions.
Without further ado, lets get into it.
So what exactly is Comfirmation Bias ?
Basically, when people would like a certain idea or outcome to be true, they end up believing it to be true.
Its really a form of wishful thinking that they are motivated by.
Then seek out only the information that confirms the belief , and ignore other relevant information that could counter this belief.
I thinks as sports fans, we can all say weve been there.
Its quite easy to get caught up in the emotional roller coaster of wishful thinking.
Afterall, you were right that other time …..
The question is how can one approach decisions with a level head.
What strategies can we put in place to overcome this Bias?
Always question your decision making process.
Seek out opinions that run counter to your own. Then look for any information that could prove that to be true.
This can of course lead folks to feel self doubt, and in turn, think twice about the wager.
And this isnt a bad thing… afterall anything can and has happened in the sports betting world, so to feel 100% sure of an outcome may lend itself to wishful thinking.
