Washington Nationals versus Chicago White Sox (June 11)
The Washington Nationals sit in fourth in the NL East and they head to Chicago for an interleague match-up against the White Sox.
Patrick Corbin is scheduled to pitch for the Nationals and Manny Banuelos is set to take the mound for the White Sox.
Offensively, the Nationals have a solid lineup with four players over ten home runs.
Anthony Rendom is leading the team in home runs (11) and RBI (41).
Howie Kenrick is tops in batting average at .323 and has added ten home runs and 38 RBI.
Juan Soto has duplicated Kendrick’s power numbers, while Brian Dozier has also contributed ten home runs and 23 RBI.
As a team the Nationals are averaging 4.8 runs per game.
The White Sox have been an average offensive team, plating 4.3 runs per game.
Jose Abreu is having an excellent season, with 16 home runs and 52 RBI.
TIme Anderson leads the team with a .324 average and has added nine of the team’s 71 home runs.
Yoan Mancado is second in home runs with 12 and in RBI with 39.
On the mound, Patrick Corbin is 5-4 with a 3.59 ERA. He’s struck out 87 in 80 1/3 innings and has surrendered ten home runs.
Sean Doolittle has 14 saves and a 3.58 ERA in 27 2/3 innings, but the majority of the bullpen has struggled.
Wander Suero, Matt Grace, Kyle Barraclough and Tony Sipp have combine to a 6.16 ERA in 87 2/3 innings.
All told, the Nationals are allowing five runs per game.
Manny Banuelos has been hurt by the long ball, allowing 11 home runs in 40 1/3 innings.
Combine that with 25 walks and his ERA is a lofty 7.36. Alex Colome has done a good job at the closer, saving 13 with an ERA of 2.19.
Josh Osich has also been dependable, allowing six earned runs in 19 1/3 innings.
However, Kelvin Herrera and Jace Fry has a combined 6.46 ERA over 47 1/3 innings.
Like the Nationals, the White Sox have allowed five runs per game.
This game has the makings of a high scoring affair.
Washington should take advantage of the struggles of Banuelos keeping the ball in the park.
The White Sox have a good chance of putting runs on the board against the Washington bullpen.
The key for them is to knock Corbin out of the game.
Washington has the edge and should take this. Look for a combined total runs of 10 at least – placing this game in the “over”.
